Envision fresh produce, homemade baked goods, hard shell clams, wood-fired pizza, and more and you’ll find yourself at Kennedy Park and Main on a Friday afternoon, where CityCenter Danbury’s Farmers’ Market will be abuzz with energy focused on healthy living and a tonnage of community dialogue. Opening on Friday, June 29th at 10am (official welcomes take place at 11am), the Farmers’ Market will run from from 10am to 4pm every Friday through October 26th.
With a recent grant of $15,000 from the Fairfield County Community Foundation ($5,000 more than last year), the Better Food for Better Health program will be able to expand, grow, and secure its significant services to seniors, women, infants, and children through the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers (FMNP) and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as Food Stamps. By using a market coin system, DFMCC doubles the value of purchases, with up to $6 matched each market day. In a survey, 86% of those receiving the match were eating more fruits and vegetables since participating in the program.
