Teacher charged with sexual assault briefly jailed

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) A Connecticut special education teacher accused of sexually assaulting two students won't have her bond revoked for being caught with one of her alleged victims.

The Connecticut Post reports that Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin on Thursday denied prosecutors' request to revoke 32-year-old Laura Ramos' bond, but raised it from $50,000 to $250,000.

Ramos' posted the higher bond and was released about an hour later.

Waterford police say they recently pulled over Ramos for using her cellphone while driving. Police say one of her alleged victims was in the vehicle, and they charged her with violating the protective order.

Ramos' attorney apologized for his client's ``lapse in judgment.'' Ramos declined to comment when she left the courthouse Thursday.

She resigned from her job at Central High School in Bridgeport.
