The former state Department of Veteran Affairs Commissioner has formed an exploratory committee for Governor. Sean Connolly's resignation took effect yesterday and he's now filed paperwork with the State Elections Enforcement Committee. The Democrat is a decorated Army veteran who served on active duty for more than 7 years including in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Danbury City Councilman Tom Saadi was named acting Commissioner of the state VA.
Connolly is among 26 Democrats and Republicans who have formed exploratory committees for statewide office. 17 candidates have already formed committees for a gubernatorial race.
Connolly was a prosecutor and legal adviser with the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. as well as in Kuwait and Iraq. After the military, Connolly worked as an attorney in Washington and then took a job in Pratt & Whitney’s military engines division.
