Murphy says failed impeachment could have lasting benefits

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy is predicting the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump could have some lasting benefits for the nation, even though the Republican was acquitted. Speaking at the University of Connecticut School of Law on Wednesday, Murphy said the decision by House Democrats to pursue articles of impeachment could ultimately have a more lasting effect on future U.S. presidents. He says a moral and ethical and legal line in the sand was created that other future administrations may eventually see, even if Trump doesn't. Murphy also praised Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah for breaking with his party.
